Corruption has adversely affected the condition of sports in India. No matter whether we talk about Cricket, hockey or Wrestling, sports authorities are getting charged with corruption. This is the reason why out of ten only one aspires to take sports as their career. The ratio is even lower if we talk about women in sports. It is easier to find Dhoni or Sushil Kumar among people but it is hard to find SaniaNehwal or PV Sindhu. The reason behind this is that families don’t encourage their girl child to take part in sports.
Even social and economic inequalities have adversely affected Sports. Access to stadiums and Sports Avenue are possible in cities, and this is why a lot of people are not able to participate in sports. Proper infrastructure is necessary for training and organization and we can see the lack of it in most Indian cities. The government of India is taking various initiatives to promote sports in the country by launching schemes like “Come and Play”.
Haryana is one such state which is full of talent. From VijenderSehwag and Dinesh Kumar to Sakshi Malik and Jasjeet Kaur Handa, all are born and brought up on the soil of Haryana. These people got the opportunity because they have the talent and capabilities. In the last few years, the Sports Administration of the state has completely revolutionized. Earlier, people were not able to showcase their skills. They didn’t get the opportunity to play on the state level. Abhay Singh Chautala was aware of the sport condition in Haryana.
Right from the infrastructure of the sports to the policies, all these things need to be transformed and only one man could do this, i.e. Abhay Singh Chautala. He built stadiums and coaching institutes in remote and rural places so that people can get proper training. He also modified the sports policies and introduced the new one to encourage sports and games in Haryana. As per his new policy, he provided sports quota for government jobs and educational institutes. He even encouraged women to participate in sports.
